Lieven Michiels - best nude photography

I was born the 6th of octobre 1977 in Bruges. At 12 year my mom bought a videocamera which was my pet-toy until I was 16 years old. Then I moved to Brussels to study 2 years audiovisual formation in St-Lucas. After that I did 4 years film school at Narafi. In Narafi I directed 2 short movies. In my last year I switched to Director of Photography. Which is basicly directing the camerawork in all of it's aspects. In which lighting a scene or a shot (more subtely) is a very big thing. There I've learned allot about the technical aspect of lighting. Though after it I've switched towards editing, which can seem for an outsider far away from camerawork. Though when you edit you look allot towards camerawork and you know how to build a scene. At the moment I'm editing in the news, so I get confronted with allot of camerawork which is fast and not done with great lighting etc... So it creates a frustration. Photography allows one to study a still-image, a moment in time. Model Photography allows me to work on my directing skills and also on my lighting skills. In the way I understand it, it allows me to dig deeper in the psychology of an image. It's a search to understand what the language of the light can tell us. It is a language which has allot to offer at it's own, in film it's dimension can be made bigger with the music, movement, rithm of dialogue, rithm of camerawork, rithm of editing, etc...

Photography allows you 'in time' to look true the eyes of the grand masters as Van Eyck, Rembrandt, Vermeer, ... And actually it is painting with light I do. The only thing I do, the moment the photographer doesn't see what he's shooting, is pushing a button and enjoying the magic of it for a lifetime.
